Everyone loves a steam train don’t they! Surely that is why the “Flying Scotsman” is still the most loved train the UK and with the success of the Harry Potter films with the “Hogwarts Express” means that a ride on a steam train is as popular today as it ever was. Thankfully up here in the Highlands we can access a fabulous little service which we highly recommend.
The Strathspey Railway runs between Aviemore and Boat of Garten and is open throughout the summer and at other peak times. You can even get married on the train! Highlights are the winter timetable when it operates the “Santa Express” which is hugely popular for those with young families.
Alternatively you can have Sunday lunch, afternoon tea or even you evening meal on board in the dining carriage. Who said anything about whisky tasting too? As you can imagine they cater for all age groups and with the backdrop of the Cairngorms, regardless of the weather outside, you will always have an amazing view.
